Scaling anaerobic digestion technology globally
Client: Paques Global
Challenge
Paques needed to accelerate global deployment of its anaerobic digestion and water purification technologies while aligning R&D, engineering and manufacturing across multiple regions.
Approach
I developed a unified global technology roadmap, led R&D and engineering teams in Europe and China, and standardized engineering practices for around 100 regional engineers, strengthening the interface between R&D, manufacturing and commercial units.
Outcome
Faster deployment of new AD technologies, improved global consistency in engineering execution and increased scalability of manufacturing and technology transfer.
Impact: Paques reinforced its position as a global leader in biotechnology-based purification systems with more reliable and cost-effective installations worldwide.
Medical devices
Industrializing bioresorbable medical devices
Client: Polyganics (now Regenity)
Challenge
A fast-growing medical device company needed to bring new bioresorbable polymer implants from concept to market while navigating strict regulatory and clinical requirements.
Approach
As Director R&D/QA/Clinical testing and board member, I led R&D, clinical research and QA/regulatory affairs, developed the product roadmap and IP strategy, and collaborated closely with surgeons, universities and key opinion leaders.
Outcome
Successful launch of multiple bioresorbable implant products, supported by a strong IP portfolio and robust clinical and regulatory foundations.
Impact: Polyganics evolved into a recognized innovator in bioresorbable medical devices, ultimately becoming Regenity.
Catalysis & R&D systems
High-throughput catalyst testing systems
Client: Avantium RDS
Challenge
Chemical and petrochemical clients required faster, more reliable catalyst testing systems to accelerate their R&D programs and de-risk investments.
Approach
As Director Technology & Innovation and MT member, I led multidisciplinary teams (engineering, analytics, software, innovation), translated market needs into new commercial R&D systems and oversaw development from concept through pilot scale to manufacturing.
Outcome
New high-throughput catalyst testing systems were launched successfully, improving reliability and performance for industrial clients and strengthening Avantium’s market position.
Impact: Avantium RDS became a preferred partner for advanced catalyst testing technologies.
Polymers & manufacturing
Improving polymer manufacturing performance
Client: DSM / Envalior
Challenge
The Emmen site needed to improve operational excellence and asset performance while managing significant CAPEX investments in high-performance plastics production.
Approach
As Technology & tolling operations manager and site MT member, I led technology and tolling operations, implemented process improvements for PA6 and PET production, managed CAPEX projects up to ~20 M€ and collaborated with internal and external experts to optimize performance.
Outcome
Increased production reliability and efficiency, improved asset utilization and stronger alignment between operations, engineering and commercial teams.
Impact: The site became a more competitive and reliable supplier of high-performance polymers for demanding applications.
